In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both”, and in chapter twenty-seven and verse four of Proverbs Solomon said, “wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous” where we read,
Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous;
but who is able to stand before envy?
The verse begins, “Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous;” Solomon began with the words, “wrath is cruel” or “heat, rage, hot displeasure and indignation exists as fierce, ferocious and savage”, “and anger is outrageous” which means “and forbearing and wrath that wrinkles the nostrils and nose exists as overflowing and outpouring like a flood”. Solomonsaid rage and hot displeasure is fierce and ferocious, and forbearing that wrinkles the nostrils and nose overflows like a flood.
The verse goes on to say, “but who is able to stand before envy?” Solomon continued with the words, “but who is able”or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover what person, whether male or female, is sure-footed, capable and confident” “to stand before envy?” which means “to remain, tolerate and endure in the presence, front and face of ardor, zeal and jealousy”. Solomon asked what person is capable of being sure-footed within the presence of jealousy and zeal.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how menacing “wrath and anger” can be, however, he elevated the idea of a person being jealous to an even greater position. God knows unbridled “wrath, anger and envy” can cause great damage, and this is why He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and cause us through his Holy Spirit to recognize “wrath, anger and envy” so they are removed from our lives and we keep our distance from them.
Next time Solomon shares about, “open rebuke”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
