Dissembling with Lips - Proverbs 26:24

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross”, and in chapter twenty-six and verse twenty-four of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “he that dissembles with his lips” where we read,

He that hates dissembles with his lips,

and lays up deceit within them.

The verse begins, He that hates dissembles with his lips, ... Solomon began with the words, “he that hates” or “the person whether male or female who is odious and as a hated enemy or foe” “dissembles with his lips: which means “disguises, misconstrues and covers by the use of his, the person's, physical lips used for speaking”. Solomon said the person who is as a hating enemy and foe disguises and conceals themself with their speaking.

The verse goes on to say, “... and lays up deceit within them. Solomon continued with the words, and lays up deceitor “and puts, sets, stations, fixes, appoints and constitutes treachery, falsehood, guile and subtlety” “within them” which means “inside of them, the person who is odious”. Solomon said the “hating” person also fixes and sets falsehood and guile inside themself.

When we think through the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how people who are odious and as enemies conceal their “hatred” with their speech, and they establish treachery and falsehood within them. In other words, they do not want others to know their subtle and perfidious ways. God knows the heart and mind of every person, and when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of every person, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and make us aware of “hating foes” and the treacherous speech and lying that is within their hearts.

Next time Solomon says, “when he speaks fair, believe him not”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
