In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “As in water face answers to face, so the heart of man to man”, and in chapter twenty-seven and verse twenty of Proverbs Solomon said, “hell and destruction are never full” where we read,
Hell and destruction are never full;
so the eyes of man are never satisfied.
The verse begins, “Hell and destruction are never full;” Solomon began with the word, “hell” or “sheol, the underworld, the pit, the grave and the abode of the dead” “and destruction” which means “and perishing and ruin ” “are never full” or “are not at any time sated, satisfied, fulfilled and surfeited”. Solomon said neither the grave nor perishing exist as satisfied and fulfilled.
The verse goes on to say, “so the eyes of man are never satisfied.” Solomon continued with the words, “so the eyes of man” or “even, also and indeed the physical eyes or mental and spiritual faculties belonging to a person whether male or female” “are never satisfied” which means “exist as not at any time sated, fulfilled and surfeited”. Solomon said the physical eyes and mental faculties are not at any time surfeited or fulfilled.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the passion and desires of people are not at any time completely fulfilled. They are very similar to the way the grave and perishing do not ever become complete. In other words, there is always room for more. God wants us to allow Him to “satisfy” us, and when we believe and trust in His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bring us “satisfaction and fullness” like nothing else ever will.
Next time Solomon shares about, “silver, gold” and “a man to his praise”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
