Not Believing Fair Speech - Proverbs 26:25

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “He that hates dissembles with his lips, and lays up deceit within them”, and in chapter twenty-six and verse twenty-five of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “when he speaks fair, believe him not” where we read,

When he speaks fair, believe him not:

for there are seven abominations in his heart.

The verse begins, When he speaks fair, believe him not: Solomon began with the words, “when he speaks fair” or “at the time and moment he, the person whether male or female, who hates and lays up deceit, utters, declares and proclaims grace, favor and pity”, “believe him not” which means “do not support, confirm, uphold or stand firm in the person who hates and lays up deceit”. Solomon said at the time the person who is odious and lies makes declarations do not trust or have faith in them.

The verse continues, “for there are seven abominations in his heart. Solomon added the words, for there are seven abominations” or “because, since and on account that there exists seven disgusting, abhorrent and idolatrous things” “in his heart” which means “within the person who hates and lies' soul, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections”. Solomon said the reason his readers and listeners were not to trust in the words of the person who is odious and deceitful is because they have seven disguising and abhorrent things within their souls, minds and wills.

When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn what is within the speech of the person who “hates and lies”. At the time they are speaking, we are not to trust what they have to say because they have “seven” disgusting and idolatrous ways, acts, deeds and ideas within their souls. God knows who we are to trust and who we are not. He wants us to trust Him because He loves us and because He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross to be crucified for the sins of the whole world. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the wisdom to know when people reveal they are odious and deceptive through their speech.

Next time Solomon shares about, “whose hatred is covered by deceit”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
