The Slothful Hides His Hand in His Bosom - Proverbs 26:15

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “as the door turns upon his hinges, so does the slothful upon his bed”, and in chapter twenty-six and verse fifteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “the slothful hides his hand in his bosom” where we read,

The slothful hides his hand in his bosom;

it grieves him to bring it again to his mouth.

The verse begins, The slothful hides his hand in his bosom; Solomon began with the words, “the slothful hides his hand” or “the person whether male or female's who is lazy, lax and indolent conceals, makes secret and lays privily his, the lazy person's, physical hand ” “in his bosom” which means “within his, the lazy person's, bowl or dish”. Solomon said the lazy person conceals their physical hand within their bowl.

The verse continues, “it grieves him to bring it again to his mouth. Solomon added the words, “it grieves him” or “it wearies, offends and disgusts him, the lazy person” “to bring it again” which means “to return, restore or refresh the lazy person's hand, another time” “to his mouth” or “toward his, the lazy person's, orifice in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking”. Solomon said returning the lazy person's hand back to their mouth wearies and disgusts them.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we see how incredibly lazy the “slothful” person is. They are so indolent that they don't return their hand from their food bowl to their mouth to eat. Now that's lazy! God wants us to be industrious, and because He desires that every person become a serving member in His Kingdom, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of everyone. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us ambitious “hands” that will never be so lazy that they won't return food from our bowls to our mouths.

Next time Solomon says “the sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
