Having No Rule Over Your Spirit - Proverbs 25:28

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory, and in chapter twenty-five and verse twenty-eight of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “he that has no rule over his own spirit” where we read,

He that has no rule over his own spirit

is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

The verse begins, He that has no rule over his own spirit ... Solomon began with the words, “he that has no rule” or “the person whether male or female who does not hold, own or possess any restraint or control” “over his own spirit” which means “over their own souls” is like the following. Solomon referred to the person who has no self-control.

The verse continues, “... is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.” Solomon added the words, “is like a city” or “exists similar and in likeness to a place of waking, court or town” “that is broken down” which means “that is breached, dispersed and scattered”, “and without walls” or “and not having any barriers of protection”. Solomon said a person who has no “self-control” is similar to a dwelling place of people that has been dispersed and does not have any protective barriers.

When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how a person who has no self-control is similar to a town that has been scattered and has no barriers. In other words, their selfish venues are unlimited. God wants us to be in a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit to maintain control over our “spirits” as we live in His world.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Solomon share how, “honor is not seemly for a fool”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
