In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful”, and in chapter twenty-seven and verse seven of Proverbs Solomon said, “the full soul loathes an honeycomb” where we read,
The full soul loathes an honeycomb;
but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
The verse begins, “The full soul loathes an honeycomb;” Solomon began with the words, “the full soul” or “the surfeited, abounding and satisfied heart, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections” “loathes an honeycomb” which means “treads down, rejects, desecrates and kicks out honey dropping down and flowing from a honeycomb”. Solomon said the person who is satisfied within their heart and body refuse honey from the “honeycomb”.
The verse continues, “but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.” Solomon added the words, “but to the hungry soul” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover toward the empty or famished heart, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections” “every bitter thing” which means “each, the whole, all and everything intolerable and unbearable” “is sweet” or “exists as pleasant and agreeable”. Solomon said the famished and empty body, heart, mind and will considers everything intolerable and unbearable as pleasant.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the person who is “full” doesn't desire any food even if it is honey, however, the person who is famished considers everything as pleasant. God alone is able to “satisfy” our “souls”, and when we yield ourselves to His Son Jesus who came into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bring us “satisfaction” that is so complete that nothing else will be considered pleasant and agreeable to us.
Next time Solomon shares about, “a bird that wanders from her nest”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
