In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country”, and in chapter twenty-five and verse twenty-six of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “a righteous man falling down before the wicked” where we read,
A righteous man falling down before the wicked
is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
The verse begins, “A righteous man falling down before the wicked ...” Solomon began with the words, “a righteous man” or “a just, right, lawful and correct person whether male or female” “falling down” which means “tottering, shaking, slipping and being dislodged” “before the wicked” or “within the presence, face and front of people who are criminal, guilty of crimes, evil and hostile to God” exists similar to the following. Solomon said a just, right and lawful person who is dislodged and slips in front of people who are evil and hostile to God are as follows.
The verse continues, “... is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.” Solomon added the words, “is a troubled fountain” or “exists similar and in likeness to a murky, polluted and muddied well”, “and a corrupt spring” which means “and a decaying, ruinous and rotted source of water”. Solomon said when the person who is right and just gives in to people who are evil and hostile to God, it is similar to a polluted well and a decaying source of water.
When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how troublesome bowing before and giving in to “wicked” people can be. Solomon likened it to a polluted well and a murky “spring”. God wants us to produce good, and because He is good and He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and purify us from within so that our lives flow like living and refreshing water to all who partake of us. (See 1 John 1:9; John 7:38)
Next time Solomon says, “it is not good to eat much honey”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
