The Heavy Wrath of the Foolish - Proverbs 27:3

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips”, and in chapter twenty-seven and verse three of Proverbs Solomon shared about the heavy, “fool's wrath” where we read,

A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty;

but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both.

The verse begins, A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; Solomon began with the words, “a stone is heavy” or “a large rock has great mass, weight and abundance”, “and the sand weighty” which means “and the round or whirling particles are dense and heavier than air”. Solomon referred to the heaviness of “stone and sand” compared to the following.

The verse continues, “but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both. Solomon added the words, but a fool's wrath” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the anger and rage that wrinkles the nostrils and nose of a person whether male or female who is quarrelsome, licentious and despises wisdom” “is heavier than them both” which means “exists as more abundant, massive, numerous, difficult and burdensome compared to both the stone and sand”. Solomon said the anger and rage of a person who despises wisdom is more abundant than the weight of stone and sand.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how massive the anger is of the unwise and foolish person. If we were to measure the weight of heavy “stones” and large amounts of “sand”, they would fail to compare. God desires to remove our “anger and wrath” from us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all people, angry or not. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and remove our “weighty wrath” that causes damage and destruction to all who experience it.

Next time Solomon says, “wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
