In Psalms chapter eighty one Asaph said, “The haters of the LORD should have submitted themselves unto him: but their time should have endured for ever”, and in chapter eighty one and verse sixteen of Psalms Asaph shared how Jehovah God said, “He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat”, where we read,
He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat:
and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied you.
The verse begins, “He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat:” Asaph began with the words, “He should have fed them also” or “He, Jehovah God, would have caused, them, the people of Israel, even so and indeed, to consume and eat” “with the finest” which means “by the use of the choice, best part and most abundant products” “of the wheat” or “pertaining to grain or food-product”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God would have supplied the people of Israel with choice nourishment and sustenance if they would have listened to and obeyed Him.
The verse continues, “and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied you.” Asaph added the words, “and with honey” or “and by the use of the honeycomb” “out of the rock” which means “from the cliff, block of stone or boulder” “should I have satisfied you” or “would I, Jehovah God, have fulfilled and surfeited you, the people of Israel”. Asaph said Jehovah God would have provided “honey” from a cliff or boulder to satiate the people of Israel.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see through Asaph how Jehovah God desired to feed and provide “honey” for the people of Israel. His abundant supply was prepared, and because He loved the people of Israel, He wanted to give it to them. They, however, refused to hear and obey Him. They did not walk in His ways, and thereby forfeited the provisions He had for them. God has given His Son Jesus to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world, and because He died on the cross for the sins of everyone, He will forgive the sins and provide everlasting life to all who believe and trust in Him. God loves us, and His provision is great. Those who are wise hear Him, obey Him and walk in His ways.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see Asaph say, “God stands in the congregation of the mighty”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
