In Psalms chapter eighty two Asaph said, “God stands in the congregation of the mighty; he judges among the gods”, and in chapter eighty two and verse two of Psalms Asaph asked, “How long will you judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked?”, where we read,
How long will you judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
The verse begins, “How long will you judge unjustly, ...” Asaph began with the words, “How long” or “for what length of time” “will you judge unjustly” which means “shall you, the people of Israel, govern over, rule and execute judgment in unrighteousness, wrong and perverseness”. Asaph asked for what length of time the people of Israel would rule and execute judgment in a wrong and perverse manner.
The verse continues, “... and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.” Asaph added the words, “and accepted the persons” or “and lifted up, carried and bore the people both male and female” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to the criminal, guilty of sin and hostile to God”? “Selah” or “exalt, uplift and pause to meditate upon it”. Asaph wondered for what length of time the people of Israel were going to lift up and receive the guilty of sin and hostile to Jehovah God.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see through Asaph how the people of Israel were ruling in perverse ways, and they were receiving and lifting up people who were criminal and evil! How wrong! How unrighteous! These judges forgot that Jehovah God rules over them. God loves people, and He invites them to receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. He sent Jesus into the world to die for the sins of all mankind, and when we receive Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life, help us to judge in accordance with His righteousness and attend to those who rule in an ungodly way.
Next time Asaph says, “Defend the poor and fatherless”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
