In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city.” Nehemiah included the children of many of the people of Israel in his census, and he included several of the men such as “the men of the other Nebo, the other Elam” and “the children of Harim, Jericho, Lod, Hadid, and Ono”, and in chapter seven and verse thirty-eight of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Senaah”, where we read,
The children of Senaah, three thousand nine hundred and thirty.
The verse reads, “The children of Senaah, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Senaah” which means “belonging to Senaah whose name means thorny”. Nehemiah shared how the offspring of “Senaah” or “thorny” were accounted for by him.
The verse continues, “... three thousand nine hundred and thirty.” Nehemiah added the words, “three thousand nine hundred” or “thirty nine hundred offspring” “and thirty” which means “and thirty more”. Nehemiah said there were “thirty nine hundred and thirty” progeny belonging to “Senaah” who were among the people of Israel that he counted who returned to Jerusalem and Judah from being captives in Babylon to the completing of the barrier wall.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah how the “thirty nine hundred and thirty” offspring of “Senaah” were among the people he counted, and their faithfulness and obedience to God's commission to return to Jerusalem was fulfilled. God desires to have a personal relationship with all of us, however, our sins separate us from Him, and for this reason, He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to be counted in Heaven with Him for all eternity.
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “the priests: the children of Jedaiah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
