In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Hear you, my son, and be wise, and guide your heart in the way”, and in chapter twenty-three and verse twenty of Proverbs Solomon said, “be not among winebibbers” where we read,
Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
The verse begins, “Be not among winebibbers;” Solomon began with the words, “be not” or “do not happen, fall out or take place” “among winebibbers” which means “in the midst of heavy drinkers and imbibers”. Solomon told his son not to keep company with heavy drinkers and imbibers.
The verse continues, “among riotous eaters of flesh:” Solomon added the words, “among riotous eaters” or “in the midst or middle of worthless, insignificant, lavish, squandering and gluttonous consumers and devourers” “of flesh” which means “of meat or food”. Solomon instructed his son not to be in the midst of people who were gluttonous consumers of meat.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon warned his son not to keep company with people who were heavy drinkers and gluttonous consumers of food. God wants us to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from being among people who are heavy drinkers and gluttonous consumers of meat.
Next time Solomon says, “the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
