Father Glorify Me - John 17:5

The apostle John wrote how Jesus prayed to His Father God, And this is life eternal, that they might know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have glorified you on the earth: I have finished the work which you gave me to do”, and in chapter seventeen and verse five of his book John shared how Jesus prayed to His Father God, “O Father, glorify me with your own self” where we read:

And now, O Father, glorify me with your own self

with the glory which I had with you before the world was.

The verse reads,And now, O Father, glorify me with your own self ... John began with Jesus' words, “And now” which means “and at this time and moment”, “O Father” or “Oh Heavenly Father God”, “glorify me” which means “honor, praise, extol and celebrate me, Jesus” “with your own self” or “with yourself Father God”. John shared how Jesus desired for His Heavenly Father to “honor and celebrate” Him with His presence.

The verse goes on to say, “... with the glory which I had with you before the world was. John continued with the words, “with the glory” or “with the honor, praise, magnificence and celebration” “which I had with you” which means “that I, Jesus, owned, possessed and held with you, God the Heavenly Father” “before the world was” or “in advance and prior to the time when the earth, cosmos and universe happened, existed and came into being”. John shared how Jesus desired for His Heavenly Father God to “honor” Him with the “honor” He possessed before the universe and earth ever existed.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus desired for His Heavenly Father God to bless Him with the “honor” that only He could provide because Jesus was aware of it before the universe ever came into being. God loves His Son Jesus, and He loves people. God the Father exalted His Son Jesus in advance of the creation, and Jesus desired that “honor” once again. God came to the world as Jesus Christ, (See John 1:14) and His plan was to “save” mankind from the penalty of sin which is death. This prayer of Jesus was to bring Him back to His rightful state because the work of salvation was soon to be completed, and those who study His life will find there was a main purpose for His coming – to bring “salvation” to mankind so they may live with Him and His Father God forever.

Next time John shares how Jesus prays, “I have manifested your name unto the men which you gave me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
