Jesus' Prayer - John 17:1

The apostle John wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “Behold, the hour comes, yes, is now come, that you shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world, and in chapter seventeen and verse one of his book John shared about Jesus praying where we read:

These words spoke Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come;

glorify your Son, that your Son also may glorify you:

The verse reads,These words spoke Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; John began with the words, “These words spoke Jesus” which means “the same words about His disciples having tribulation in the world but should be of good cheer uttered, declared and proclaimed the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation”, “and lifted up his eyes to heaven” or “and raised and poised His physical eyes toward the region above the sidereal heavens which is the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”, “and said” which means “and uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “Father” or “Heavenly Father God”, “the hour is come” which means “the time and season has arisen and appeared”. John shared how Jesus began to pray to His Heavenly Father and acknowledged that the “time” had arisen and appeared for Him to carry out God's plan of salvation.

The verse goes on to say, glorify your Son, that your Son also may glorify you: John continued with the words, “glorify your Son” or “praise, extol, magnify and celebrate your, God's, offspring and posterity”, “that your Son” which means “so your, God's, offspring and posterity” “also may glorify you” or “even so and indeed may praise, extol, magnify and celebrate you, God the Heavenly Father”. John shared how Jesus prayed for His Heavenly Father to “magnify and celebrate” Him so He would return the same to His Heavenly Father.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus began to pray to His Heavenly Father by acknowledging that His “time” had come, and now He desired for God the Father to “magnify and celebrate” Him so that He would even so and indeed “glorify” the Heavenly Father in return. Jesus knew the time had come for Him to be offered as a sacrifice for the sins of the world, and because Jesus was to experience such a difficult time, He desired that His Heavenly Father be with Him. God the Father and Jesus the Son were in harmony with one another, and because mankind needed to be “saved” from their sins, Jesus came to the world to be crucified. God the Father would indeed “glorify” His Son Jesus, and anyone who yields their life to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God in Heaven. Let all who read these words know the importance of Jesus being “glorified”.

Next time John shares how Jesus tells His Father God, “you have given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as you have given him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
