God Glorified and Jesus' Finished Work - John 17:4

The apostle John wrote how Jesus prayed to His Father God, And this is life eternal, that they might know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent”, and in chapter seventeen and verse four of his book John shared how Jesus prayed to His Father God, “I have glorified you on the earth: I have finished the work” where we read:

I have glorified you on the earth: I have finished the work which you gave me to do.

The verse reads,I have glorified you on the earth: John began with Jesus' words, “I have glorified you” which means “I, Jesus, have magnified, praised, extolled, celebrated and honored you, Heavenly Father God” “on the earth” or “upon the arable land, country, territory and region”. John shared how Jesus told His Heavenly Father that He “honored and celebrated” Him while He was in the world.

The verse continues, I have finished the work which you gave me to do. John added the words, “I have finished” or “I, Jesus, have completed, made perfect and accomplished” “the work” which means “the business, employment, enterprise and undertaking” “which you gave me to do” or “that you, Heavenly Father God, delivered, presented and committed to me, Jesus, to make ready, produce and perform”. John shared how Jesus told His Heavenly Father that He completed the “undertaking and tasks” that He “assigned” to Him.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus not only “honored and celebrated” His Heavenly Father God while He was upon the earth, but He also “completed” the assignment God presented to Him. “Honor” and “Duty” were necessary for Jesus to fulfill the plan of salvation for mankind, and when Jesus lived and served among people, and died upon the cross for their sins, He completed God's requirement of Him. God loves people, and He sent His Son Jesus to “finish the work” assigned to Him so they could be saved. Everyone who surrenders their life to Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life with God. This was God's purpose and work, and Jesus completed everything that was necessary for mankind to have a personal relationship with Him.

Next time John shares how Jesus prays, “O Father, glorify me with your own self”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
