Crafty Counsel - Psalms 83:3

In Psalms chapter eighty three Asaph said, “Keep not you silence, O God: hold not you peace, and be not still, O God. For, lo, your enemies make a tumult: and they that hate you have lifted up the head”, and in chapter eighty three and verse three of Psalms Asaph said, “They have taken crafty counsel against your people”, where we read,

They have taken crafty counsel against your people, and consulted against your hidden ones.

The verse begins, “They have taken crafty counsel against your people, ...” Asaph began with the words, “they have taken crafty counsel” or “they, the enemies and hating foes of Jehovah God, were subtle, shrewd and cunning in intimacy and consultation” “against your people” which means “in opposition to your, Jehovah God's, human beings both male and female”. Asaph shared how the “enemies” of Jehovah God held cunning and subtle consultations in opposition to His “people”.

The verse continues, “... and consulted against your hidden ones.” Asaph added the words, “and consulted against” or “and advised, planned and conspired in opposition to” “your hidden ones” which means “your, Jehovah God's, treasured, esteemed and protected people”. Asaph shared how the “enemies” of Jehovah God also planned and conspired in opposition to His treasured people.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Asaph said the “enemies” of Jehovah God conspired in opposition and made plans against His treasured “people”. Alhough Jehovah God was the God of the people of Israel, hating adversaries who were emboldened set themselves against His people. God loves everyone, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and stand against any hating foes who rise up in opposition to Him and us.

Next time Asaph says, “They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
