In Psalms chapter eighty two Asaph said, “Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy”, and in chapter eighty two and verse four of Psalms Asaph said, “Deliver the poor and needy”, where we read,
Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.
The verse begins, “Deliver the poor and needy:” Asaph began with the words, “Deliver the poor” or “rescue and liberate the lowly, weak and faint” “and needy” which means “and in want, lacking and impoverished”. Asaph instructed the people of Israel to liberate people who are lowly and impoverished.
The verse continues, “rid them out of the hand of the wicked.” Asaph added the words, “rid them out of the hand” or “snatch away, rescue and save them, the poor and needy, from the hand of strength, power, might and authority” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to people who are criminal, guilty of sin, hostile to God and ungodly”. Asaph continued his instruction to the people of Israel by telling them to rescue and save “the poor and needy” from the power and authority of evil and ungodly people.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how Asaph continued to guide the people of Israel to rescue people who are weak, lowly, humble and in want from others who are evil and hostile to God. God allows some people to obtain less than others. Jesus said, “For you have the poor always with you; but me you have not always” (See Matthew 26:11), and when we have opportunity, we should remember them and rule over them in a just manner. God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we lack in our own abilities, our humility before Jehovah God should remind us to care for others like He did.
Next time Asaph says, “They know not, neither will they understand”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
