In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city. Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this”, and he included “the children of Parosh, Shephatiah, Pahathmoab, Jeshua, Joab, Elam, Zattu, Zaccai, Binnui, Bebai, Azgad, Adoniakam, Bigvai, Adin, Ater of Hezekiah, Hashum, Bezai, Hariph and Gibeon” and “the men of Bethlehem, Netophah, Anathoth, Bethzamaveth, Kirjathjearim, Chephirah, Beeroth, Ramah, Geba, Michmas, Bethel and Ai”, and in chapter seven and verse thirty-three of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the men of the other Nebo”,where we read,
The men of the other Nebo, fifty and two.
The verse reads, “The men of the other Nebo, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the men” or “the male adults” “ofthe other Nebo” which means “belonging to one other person named Nebo whose name means prophet”. Nehemiah shared how there were male adults from one other man named “Nebo” who were among the people of Israel he counted.
The verse goes on to say, “... fifty and two.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “fifty and two” or “fifty-two men”. Nehemiah shared how there were “fifty-two” adult males from the one other “Nebo” who were among the people in Jerusalem and Judah who continued to the rebuilding of the barrier wall.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah that “fifty-two” male adults who belonged to another man named “Nebo” were accounted for by him. Each of these groups were important to be recognized by Jehovah God, and He will “count” every person who yields their life to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth and empower us to live according to that truth so we will be counted with Him as well.
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “the children of the other Elam”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
