Are You Betraying Jesus with a Kiss? - Luke 22:48

Luke the beloved physician wrote how, “Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse forty-eight of his book Luke shared how Jesus asked, “are you betraying the Son of man with a kiss?” where we read:

But Jesus said unto him, Judas, are you betraying the Son of man with a kiss?

The verse reads, “But Jesus said unto him, ...” Luke began with the words, “But Jesus said or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto him” which means “to Judas”. Luke shared how Jesus began to make a statement to Judas after he kissed Him.

The verse goes on to say, “... Judas, are you betraying the Son of man with a kiss? Luke continued with the word, “Judas” whose name means “he shall be praised and was one of Jesus' disciples”, “are you betraying” which means “are you, Judas, committing, giving, delivering over and yielding up to be judged, condemned, punished, scourged, tormented and put to death” “the Son of man” or “God's Son who was Jesus Himself” “with a kiss” which means “by means of a physical affectionate kiss”? Luke shared how Jesus asked “Judas” if he was “delivering” Him over to the religious leaders with an “affectionate physical kiss”.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus responded to the affectionate “kiss” of “Judas”. Though Jesus knows all things, it was as though He was questioning “Judas” whether this was the method by which he would “betray” Him. Jesus knew this “hour” was upon Him, and because He desired to save mankind from their sins, He willingly went along with these events. “Judas” betrayed Jesus “with a kiss” and those who refuse to receive Him as their “Lord and Savior” continue to “betray” Him. Jesus desires to have a relationship with everyone, and those who believe and trust in Him will be forgiven of their sins and receive everlasting life with His Father God. All others align themselves with “Judas” who choose other methods by which to “betray” Him.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus' disciples ask, “Lord, shall we smite with the sword?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
