What is Written is Yet to Be Accomplished in Jesus - Luke 22:37

Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus asked His disciples, “When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked you any thing? And they said, Nothing. Then said he unto them, But now, he that has a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that has no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse thirty-seven of his book Luke shared how Jesus told His disciples, “this that is written must yet be accomplished in me” where we read:

For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.

The verse reads,For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, ...” Luke began with the words, “For I say unto you or “because, since and on account that I, Jesus, utter, declared and proclaim to you, disciples of Jesus”, “that this that is written” which means “so the words which are delineated or formed in letters upon tablets, parchment, paper or other material” “must yet be accomplished in me” or “is necessary and of necessity still and hereafter to be brought to a close, executed, performed, carried out, finished and completed and within me, Jesus”. Luke shared how Jesus told His disciples that which was prophesied in the next phrase concerning Himself needed to be fulfilled.

The verse continues, “... And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.” Luke added the words, “and he was reckoned” or “and He, the Messiah Jesus, was accounted, numbered and imputed” “among the transgressors” which means “alongside people who were wicked and were violators of the law”: “for the things concerning me” or “because, since and on account that the prophesies and actions against Jesus” “have an end” which means “have a finish, limit and termination”. Luke shared how Jesus referred to the prophesy written in Isaiah chapter fifty-three and verse twelve, “he was numbered with the transgressors” to share in part how He was to suffer in His final days before the crucifixion.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus knew He needed to “fulfill” every scripture and prophesy which was written in the word of God concerning Him. Because He was in His final days before He would suffer and die, He provided direction to His disciples for the events that would come to pass. God's provision and protection of man has been given and offered by Him since man was created, and His plan of eternal salvation for mankind came through Jesus fulfilling the prophesies concerning the Messiah of God. Those who are wise will carefully consider all the words written concerning the Messiah and find Jesus to be the only One who fulfilled them, and He alone is worthy to be worshiped as their personal “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus' disciples tell Him, “Lord, behold, here are two swords”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
