Here are Two Swords - Luke 22:38

Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus asked His disciples, “When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked you any thing? And they said, Nothing. Then said he unto them, But now, he that has a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that has no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse thirty-eight of his book Luke shared how Jesus' disciples tell Him, “Lord, behold, here are two swords” where we read:

And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

The verse reads,And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords.” Luke began with the words, “And they said or “and Jesus' disciples uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “Lord” which means “One to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah”, “behold, here are two swords” or “lo, look and consider, in this place and location exist two large knives or small curved or straight swords used for a cutting stroke or for thrusting”. Luke shared how Jesus' disciples told Him they possessed “two swords” in response to Him directing them to “sell” their “garments” and buy “swords”.

The verse goes on to say, And he said unto them, It is enough.” Luke continued with the words, “and he said unto them” or “and Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed to His disciples”, “it is enough” which means “the two swords are meet, fit and sufficient”. Luke shared how Jesus told His disciples the “two swords” were sufficient for what they needed.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we notice how the disciples of Jesus focused upon the “two swords” in response to all Jesus said. They had “two swords” which Jesus said was sufficient, but they actually had the power of the living God, Jesus, with them. Weapons are used to defend and combat, and there is no greater “weapon” than the power of God. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person, and when they yield their life to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they have aligned themselves with the greatest “weapon” in all Creation. Let all who read these words submit themselves to Almighty God and His Son Jesus against whom no foe or enemy can stand.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus, “came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
