God's Name Shall Endure Forever - Psalms 72:17

In Psalms chapter seventy-two David said of the royal ruler, “he shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: prayer also shall be made for him continually; and daily shall he be praised. There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth”, and in chapter seventy-two and verse seventeen of Psalms David said, “His name shall endure for ever” where we read,

His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun:

and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.

The verse begins, His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: David began with the words, “His name” or “his, the royal ruler's, reputation, fame and glory” “shall endure for ever” which means “will be, last, exist, arise and appear for long duration, perpetually, evermore and always”: “his name shall be continued” or “his, the royal ruler's, fame, reputation and glory will propagate, re-sprout and be perpetual” “as long as the sun” which means “for the length of time that the sun in the sky lasts”. David said the reputation, fame and glory of the royal ruler would last perpetually, and it would exist for the length of time that the sun is in the sky.

The verse continues, and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed. David added the words, “and men shall be blessed in him” or “and men, human beings both male and female, will be adored, saluted and congratulated within him, the royal ruler”: “all nations” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of the people groups both Hebrew and non- Hebrew throughout the world” “shall call him blessed” or “will pronounce, set right and advance him, the royal ruler, as adored, saluted and congratulated”. David said people will be adored and celebrated in the royal ruler, and people throughout the world will pronounce him as adored, celebrated and saluted.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the fame, reputation and glory of the royal ruler was to continue forever, and even until today we know of Solomon who was blessed by Jehovah God even as David prayed. People were blessed by Solomon, and people groups around the world knew Solomon was adored and saluted by God. The same is true to an even greater degree for Jesus Christ who was the descendant of David. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to be “blessed” and to “bless” Him for all eternity.

Next time David says, “Blessed be the LORD God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
