Great and Sore Troubles - Psalms 71:20

In Psalms chapter seventy-one David said, “Your righteousness also, O God, is very high, who have done great things: O God, who is like unto you!, and in chapter seventy-one and verse twenty of Psalms David said, “you, which have showed me great and sore troubles” where we read,

You, which have showed me great and sore troubles, shall quicken me again,

and shall bring me up again from the depths of the earth.

The verse begins, You, which have showed me great and sore troubles, shall quicken me again, ... David began with the words, “you, which have showed me” or “you, Jehovah God, who have allowed me, David, to perceive, behold, gaze at and observe” “great and sore” which means “many abounding and numerous disagreeable, malignant and displeasing” “troubles” or “straits, distresses, afflictions, adversities and tribulations”, “shall quicken me again” which means “will give life, sustain and make me, David, prosperous and restored to health. David recognized that Jehovah God allowed him to observe and experience numerous difficulties and afflictions, however, David knew Jehovah God would restore him to health and allow him to be prosperous again.

The verse goes on to say,... and shall bring me up again from the depths of the earth. David continued with the words, “and shall bring me up again” or “and will visit, shoot forth and exalt me, David, to return and come back” “from the depths” which means “separate and apart from the abyss and deep places” “of the earth” or “belonging to the land, ground, countries and world”. David said Jehovah God would visit and return him from the deep places within the world.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David understood that Jehovah God allowed him to experience difficulties and afflictions, however, God would restore him to health and not leave him in those tribulations. God would rescue David, and David knew it. Although we experience trials and tribulations in this world, Jesus has overcome the world. (See John 16:33) Everyone is invited to receive Jesus Christ as their “Savior and Lord” because He came to the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and accompany us through the trials we encounter. Let us give praise, honor and glory unto God not only for watching us as we experience difficulties, but will also rescue and save us within them.

Next time David says, “you shall increase my greatness, and comfort me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
