The Soul of the Turtledove - Psalms 74:19

In Psalms chapter seventy-four Asaph said to Jehovah God, “Remember this, that the enemy has reproached, O LORD, and that the foolish people have blasphemed your name”, and in chapter seventy-four and verse nineteen of Psalms Asaph said, deliver not the soul of your turtledove unto the multitude of the wickedwhere we read,

O deliver not the soul of your turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked:

forget not the congregation of your poor for ever.

The verse begins, O deliver not the soul of your turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked:” Asaph began with the words, “O deliver not the soul” or “O do not rescue, grant, cause, appoint and recompense the inner man, mind, will, life, living being, desire and seat of emotions and passions” “of your turtledove” which means “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, dove which is often used as a term of endearment” “unto the multitude” or “toward the numerous and abundant number” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to the criminal, guilty of sin, evil, disagreeable and malignant”. Asaph appealed to Jehovah God not to allow the mind and heart of his endeared people to be overtaken by the evil and criminal enemies.

The verse continues, forget not the congregation of your poor for ever.” Asaph added the words, “forget not the congregation” or “do not ignore, be oblivious to and cause a want of memory or attention concerning the assembly or community” “of your poor” which means “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, afflicted, humble, wretched, weak and needy” “for ever” or “unto perpetuity, victory, everlastingness and endurance of life”. Asaph beckoned Jehovah God not to ignore or be oblivious perpetually to the assembly of His afflicted, weak and needy people.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Asaph appealed to Jehovah God not to allow His people to be overcome by the evil enemies, and He wanted God to not be oblivious to His assembly of afflicted and needy people. God loves people, and His desire is to save everyone. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and deliver and remember us even as He did Asaph and his people.

Next time Asaph says, “have respect unto the covenant, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
