No Bands in Their Death - Psalms 73:4

In Psalms chapter seventy-three Asaph said, “I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked”, and in chapter seventy-three and verse four of Psalms Asaph said, there are no bands in their death” where we read,

For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.

The verse begins, For there are no bands in their death: Asaph began with the words, “for there are no bands” or “because, since and on account that there exists not any fetters or tightly fastened griefs” “in their death” which means “at the time when they cease to live and take their last breath”. Asaph said the “foolish” and “wicked” do not have any restraints or tightly fastened griefs when their time of dying has come.

The verse continues, but their strength is firm. Asaph added the words, “but their strength” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the power, might and ability of the foolish and wicked” “is firm” which means “exists as fat, plenteous and plump”. Asaph said the power and might of the foolish and wicked exists as plenteous and plump even when death comes.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Asaph mentioned the way there seemed to be no restraints when the foolish and wicked die, but rather their power and might was plenteous and plump. This was difficult for Asaph to understand. God knows every person is a sinner, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. Sin separates us from a relationship with God, and it is manifested in many foolish and wicked ways. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us when we see others prosper even when they are evil and hostile to God.

Next time Asaph says, they are not in trouble as other men, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
