Slippery Places - Psalms 73:18

In Psalms chapter seventy-three Asaph said, “I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked”, and because they seem to prosper Asaph said, “When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me. Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end”, and in chapter seventy-three and verse eighteen of Psalms Asaph said, surely you did set them in slippery placeswhere we read,

Surely you did set them in slippery places: you cast them down into destruction.

The verse begins, Surely you did set them in slippery places: Asaph began with the words, “surely you did set them” or “indeed, of surety, truly and wherefore you, Divine judge Jehovah God, appointed, stationed, fixed and constituted the foolish and wicked people” “in slippery places” which means “in smooth and flattering locations”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God appointed and stationed the foolish and wicked people in lubricious, smooth, slick and slimy locations.

The verse continues, you cast them down into destruction. Asaph added the words, “you cast them down” or “you, Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God, threw and caused them, the foolish and wicked people, to fall” “into destruction” which means “into ruin, desolation and devastation”. Asaph said the Divine judge Jehovah God threw the foolish and wicked into desolation and ruin.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph acknowledged Jehovah God's handling of the foolish and wicked people. After He went to the sacred holy place of God, Asaph understood that God was allowing the people who committed evil to be on a slippery path that would lead them to destruction. Solomon wrote, “There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death (See Proverbs 14:12), and although it may appear for a time that people who reject and refuse a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ are prospering, they will eventually come before Almighty God to be judge for their rejection of Him. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and brought to the understanding that God Almighty will indeed judge the foolish and wicked people who refuse Him.

Next time Asaph says, How are they brought into desolation, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
