Brought into Desolation - Psalms 73:19

In Psalms chapter seventy-three Asaph said, “I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked”, and because they seem to prosper Asaph said, “When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me. Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end. Surely you did set them in slippery places: you cast them down into destruction”, and in chapter seventy-three and verse nineteen of Psalms Asaph said, How are they brought into desolationwhere we read,

How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.

The verse begins, How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! Asaph began with the words, “how are they brought into desolation” or “in what way are the foolish and wicked people carried and lead into waste, horror and appalment”, “as in a moment” which means “within a very short space of time, instantly and suddenly”. Asaph said the foolish and wicked people are lead into waste and horror within a short space of time.

The verse goes on to say, they are utterly consumed with terrors. Asaph continued with the words, “you are utterly consumed” or “they, the foolish and wicked people, exist as snatched away, terminated and perished” “with terrors” which means “by the use of destruction, calamities and dreadful events”. Asaph said the foolish and wicked people are snatched away and terminated by the use of calamities and fearful events.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Asaph perceived that foolish and wicked people are suddenly lead into horror, and they perish with destruction and calamities. Because they forsake their need for God and reject His offer to save and bless them, they are left to themselves, and their evil and ludicrous ways will be judged by Him. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of every person, and when we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and assure us that people who are foolish and evil will be lead into destruction, calamities and fearful events.

Next time Asaph says, O Lord, when you awake, you shall despise their image, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
