Coming Down Like Rain - Psalms 72:6

In Psalms chapter seventy-two David said, “The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness. He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor. They shall fear you as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations”, and in chapter seventy-two and verse six of Psalms David said, “He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass” where we read,

He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.

The verse begins, He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: David began with the words, “he shall come down” or “he, the royal ruler, will descend and come forth” “like rain upon the mown grass” which means “similar to rainwater falling from the sky upon fleeced and sheared off grass”. David said the royal ruler would descend similar to the way “rain” falling from the sky comes down upon grass that has been sheared or fleeced.

The verse goes on to say,as showers that water the earth. David continued with the words, “as showers” or “like unto copious and heavy rains” “that water the earth” which means “that saturate, soak and pour down rain upon the land, country, territory, district, region and world”. David said the reign of the royal ruler would saturate his kingdom like copious rains cover the land and world.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through David how the royal ruler's governing of the people was to be as refreshing as the copious rain showers that soak the lands of the world. David believed with the blessing of Jehovah God, his son Solomon would govern over the people in a refreshing and nourishing way. This will also happen when David's descendant, the Messiah, rules over the world. God loves people, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and govern over us with His nourishing and refreshing salvation, peace and grace.

Next time David says, “in his days shall the righteous flourish”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
