Fear as Long as the Sun and Moon Endure - Psalms 72:5

In Psalms chapter seventy-two David said, “The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness. He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor”, and in chapter seventy-two and verse five of Psalms David said, “they shall fear you as long as the sun and moon endure” where we read,

They shall fear you as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.

The verse begins, They shall fear you as long as the sun and moon endure, ... David began with the words, “the shall fear you” or “they, the people of the nation will revere, stand in awe of, honor and respect you, royal ruler” “as long as the sun” which means “for the length of time of the sunrising to sun-setting in the daytime sky” “and moon” or “and the moon rising and setting in the nighttime sky” “endure” which means “remain, stay and last”. David said the people would revere and honor the royal ruler for as long as the sun and moon remain in the sky.

The verse continues,... throughout all generations. David added the words, “throughout all” or “even unto each, every, the whole and everyone of the future” “generations” which means “ages, classes of people and posterity”. David said the reverence of the royal ruler would continue through each and every future age of people.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David knew the royal ruler would be revered and held in awe unto perpetuity, and all future “generations” would continue their reverence and worship of the royal ruler. David wanted Jehovah God to bless his son Solomon with the honor and respect of the people, and this desire was to be poured out upon his descendant and coming Messiah as well. Paul the apostle, speaking of Jesus Christ said, “every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God” (Romans 14:11), and there will be a day when everyone shall give honor and reverence to Jesus as Lord. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and grant us the opportunity to worship Him both now and with “generations” which are to come.

Next time David says, “He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
