The Prayers of David are Ended - Psalms 72:20

In Psalms chapter seventy-two David said, “Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only does wondrous things. And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen”, and in chapter seventy-two and verse twenty of Psalms the Psalmist said, “the prayers of David … are ended” where we read,

The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

The verse begins, The prayers of David ... The Psalmist began with the words, “the prayers” or “the intercessions, supplications and hymns” “of David” which means “belonging to David whose name means blessed and was the second king of Israel”. The Psalmist said David's intercessions and supplications were as follows.

The verse continues, “.. the son of Jesse are ended. The Psalmist added the words, “the son of Jesse” or “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Jesse whose name means I possess and was the grandson of Boaz and the father of king David” “are ended” which means “exist as accomplished, ceased, consumed, completed and finished”. The Psalmist referred to David's “father”, “Jesse”, as he completed this final Psalm in book two of the book of Psalms.

When we think through the words in this verse, we realize there may have been another author who finished this chapter. Most believe it was Solomon because he recognized not only the coming “Messiah” but also his father as the “son of Jesse”. The book of Psalms is divided into five books, and this marks the end of the second division. God is the ultimate author of the scriptures, and He inspired men to write His words. (See 2 Peter 1:21) God's desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus whom He sent to be crucified for the sins of all mankind. When we yield to Him as our “”Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and encourage us to continue in His word and give praise, honor and glory to Him for all eternity.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Asaph say, Truly God is good to Israel, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
