Lift Not Up Your Horn - Psalms 75:5

In Psalms chapter seventy-five Asaph wrote how Jehovah God said, “I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn”, and in chapter seventy-five and verse five of Psalms Asaph shared how Jehovah God said, “lift not up your horn on high” where we read,

Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck.

The verse begins, “Lift not up your horn on high:” Asaph began with the words, “lift not up” or “do not exalt, raise or extol” “your horn on high” which means “your, the foolish and wicked people's, flask, cornet or peak which are symbols of power”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God repeated His idea about the wicked and foolish people not exalting their power.

The verse goes on to say, “speak not with a stiff neck.” Asaph continued with the words, “speak not” or “do not utter, declare or make proclamations” “with a stiff neck” which means “by the use of a forward, bold, arrogant and impudent back of the neck”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God instructed the foolish and wicked people not to make proclamations by the use of bold and arrogant ways.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Asaph how Jehovah God continued to instruct the foolish and wicked people as He repeated the idea of them not exalting their power nor making proclamations according to their arrogant ways. When people believe they are the makers and producers of their own strength, power and might, they often credit themselves with their accomplishments and gains. God alone gives power, ability and gain to people because He actually owns everything. He allows people to receive His gifts, and His desire is for them to credit Him with their gains. He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the errors and mistakes of all mankind, and when we receive Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and attend to everyone who boasts in themselves with arrogant words and activities.
