God, Plead Your Own Cause - Psalms 74:22

In Psalms chapter seventy-four Asaph said to Jehovah God, “let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise your name”, and in chapter seventy-four and verse twenty-two of Psalms Asaph said, Arise, O God, plead your own causewhere we read,

Arise, O God, plead your own cause: remember how the foolish man reproaches you daily.

The verse begins, Arise, O God, plead your own cause:” Asaph began with the words, “Arise, O God” or “stand up, be fixed, proven and validated O Divine ruler, judge and Supreme God”, “plead your own cause” which means “contend and strive for your, the Divine judge's, own personal dispute, quarrel, controversy and case”. Asaph called upon the Divine judge Jehovah God to contend for His own dispute and controversy.

The verse goes on to say, remember how the foolish man reproaches you daily.” Asaph continued with the words, “remember how the foolish man” or “recall and call to mind the manner and way the senseless, stupid, wicked and impious human being” “reproaches you daily” which means “scorning, taunting, shaming and disgracing you, Divine judge Jehovah God, each daytime as defined by evening and morning”. Asaph appealed to the Divine judge Jehovah God to recall the manner in which the wicked and impious man scorns, taunts and disgraces Him every day.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph beckoned the Divine judge Jehovah God to contend for His own personal controversy, and he wanted God to recall how the wicked and impious man disgraces Him every day. Asaph wanted God to act against His enemies, and the idea was that God's inactivity presumed He was not aware or involved. Of course, God knew, and He knows all things including the timing for contending with those who oppose Him. God is a God of grace, and He is longsuffering. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to “save” people from their sins, and when Jesus died on the cross, He paid the price for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and strive with those who scorn Him according to His own timing.

Next time Asaph says, forget not the voice of your enemies, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
