Psalms chapter eighty three begins with the heading, “[[A Song or Psalm of Asaph.]]” which breaks down, “A Song” which means “a musical lyric and ode” “or Psalm” which refers to “or a melody or poem set to notes” “of Asaph” or “belonging to Asaph whose name means gatherer and was a son of Berechiah and the chief Levite musician under David”, and in chapter eighty three and verse one of Psalms Asaph said, “Keep not you silence, O God”, where we read,
Keep not you silence, O God: hold not you peace, and be not still, O God.
The verse begins, “Keep not you silence, O God:” Asaph began with the words, “Keep not you silence” or “do not cease, rest, pause or be peaceful”, “O God” which means “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”. Asaph did not want the Divine judge Jehovah God to remain quiet and at rest.
The verse goes on to say, “hold not you peace, and be not still, O God.” Asaph continued with the words, “hold not you peace” or “do not you, Jehovah God, be silent, quiet and as deaf”, “and be not still” which means “and do not exist as tranquil, undisturbed, at rest and pacified”, “O God” or “O Divine judge Jehovah God”. Asaph beckoned the Divine judge Jehovah God not to remain quiet and undisturbed.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Asaph pled with the Divine judge Jehovah God not to remain quiet, as deaf and at rest. He knew Jehovah God could speak against his and the people of Israel's enemies at any time, and if He kept quiet and undisturbed by them, they would conquer the people of Israel. God loves people, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and rise up to speak against those who are adversarial to us.
Next time Asaph says, “your enemies make a tumult”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
