O God, Judge the Earth - Psalms 82:8

In Psalms chapter eighty two Asaph said, “I have said, You are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. But you shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes”, and in chapter eighty two and verse eight of Psalms Asaph said, “Arise, O God, judge the earth”, where we read,

Arise, O God, judge the earth: for you shall inherit all nations.

The verse begins, Arise, O God, judge the earth: Asaph began with the word, “Arise” or “stand up, be fixed and established”, “O God” which means “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”, “judge the earth” or “govern, vindicate, punish and rule over the country, territory, district, region and world”. Asaph called upon the Divine judge Jehovah God to execute governance and rule over the world.

The verse continues, for you shall inherit all nations. Asaph added the words, “for you” or “because, since and on account that you, Jehovah God” “shall inherit all nations” which means “will possess, acquire and be allotted each, every, the whole and everyone of the tribes and people groups in the world”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God would possess every people group in the world.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph called upon the Divine judge Jehovah God to rule over the world. God owns and possesses the world, and all things will return to Him in the final age. John the apostle speaking of Jesus wrote, “These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.” (See Revelation 17:14), and also, And he has on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.” (See Revelation 19:16) Though people make judgments in the world, everyone shall give an account of what they have done in their own bodies, (See Revelation 14:12) and that is why God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of everyone. When we believe and trust in Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and become part of His inheritance in this world.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Asaph say, “Keep not you silence, O God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
