In Psalms chapter thirty seven David said, “Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. For the LORD loves judgment, and forsakes not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off”, and in chapter thirty seven and verse twenty-nine of Psalms David said, “the righteous shall inherit the land” where we read,
The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.
The verse begins, “The righteous shall inherit the land, ...” David began with the words, “the righteous” or “the just, lawful, correct and lawful” “shall inherit the land” which means “will utterly seize and possess the country, territory, district, region and earth”. David said people who are just, godly, lawful and correct will possess the earth.
The verse goes on to say, “... and dwell therein for ever.” David continues with the words, “and dwell therein” or “and settle down, reside and abide within the earth” “for ever” which means “unto perpetuity, continuously and to the continuing future”. David said the “righteous” would abide within the earth unto perpetuity.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through David how people who are just, correct and lawful will not only “inherit” the earth, but will also live within it perpetually. The idea is “eternal” possession and “salvation” with God. God's passion toward mankind is that they live with Him forever, but because sin separates people from this Holy God, He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of the world. When we receive Jesus as our personal “Lord and Savior”, He forgives our sin and makes us “righteous” so we may abide with Him throughout eternity. God invites us to yield to His Son Jesus to be saved from the penalty of sins which is death, and we will give Him praise, honor and glory unto the ages without end for His provision of salvation to mankind.
Next time David says, “the mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
