In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “withhold not correction from the child: for if you beat him with the rod, he shall not die. You shall beat him with the rod, and shall deliver his soul from hell”, and in chapter twenty-three and verse fifteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “if your heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice” where we read,
My son, if your heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
The verse begins, “My son, if your heart be wise, ...” Solomon began with the words, “my son” or “Solomon's male offspring and progeny”, “if your heart be wise” which means “whether and in case your, Solomon's son's, soul, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections were instructed, skilled and restrained from acting evil” the following would occur. Solomon began to instruct his male offspring as concerning wisdom within his soul, mind and will which would produce the following result.
The verse goes on to say, “... my heart shall rejoice, even mine.” Solomon continued with the words, “my heart shall rejoice” or “my, Solomon's, soul, mind and will will exult, be glad, cheer and brighten up”, “even mine” which means “indeed and also my soul, Solomon's”. Solomon said his soul would be glad because his son's “heart” was skilled, prudent and restrained from acting evil.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon about the joy he would obtain when he discovered that his son's soul, mind and will were instructed and skilled. God wants us to be “wise”, and He provides His wisdom to every person who asks especially when we receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. (See James 1:5) God will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the exultation of wisdom for ourselves and for the prodigy that He provides.
Next time Solomon tells what will happen, “when your lips speak right things”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
