A Kingdom Appointed - Luke 22:29

Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus said to His disciples, “You are they which have continued with me in my temptations”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse twenty-nine of his book Luke shared how Jesus said to His disciples, “I appoint unto you a kingdom” where we read:

And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father has appointed unto me;

The verse reads,And I appoint unto you a kingdom, ...” Luke began with the words, “and I appoint unto you or “and I, Jesus, make a covenant and arrangement with you, disciples of Jesus, for” “a kingdom” which means “a royal power, kingship, dominion and rule”. Luke shared how Jesus said He was making a “covenant” with His disciples to bring them into a “royal power and rule” because they had “continued with” Him in His trials.

The verse continues, “... as my Father has appointed unto me;” Luke added the words, “as my Father” or “even like and in the same manner Jesus' Father God” “has appointed unto me” which means “made a covenant and arrangement toward Jesus Himself”. Luke shared how Jesus said His disciples would have a “covenant and agreement” for a “Kingdom” in the same way and likeness that God the Father gave Him a “Kingdom”.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we discover the inheritance that was to be given to the disciples of Jesus. Jesus recognized how His disciples “continued with” Him while He was tested on the earth, and because they were “faithful”, He promised them a “Kingdom” just like His Father God gave to Him. God desires to share His Kingdom with every person who yields to His Son Jesus Christ, and when they dedicate their lives to Him, they shall gain entrance into the greatest place that ever existed. Those who are wise will carefully listen to what Jesus said concerning His Kingdom and submit themselves to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” who extends great promises to all who yield.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says to His disciples, “that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
