Satan Enters Judas - Luke 22:3

The beloved physician Luke wrote, “the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover. And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse three of his book Luke shared, “Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot” where we read:

Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

The verse reads,Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, ...” Luke began with the words, “then entered Satan or “at that time the prince of spirits, the devil and inveterate adversary of God and Christ came and possessed” “into Judas” which means “in Jesus' disciple named Judas which means he shall be praise and was the apostle who betrayed Jesus” “surnamed Iscariot” or “named, invoked and called after Iscariot which means men of Kerioth”. Luke shared how “the devil himself” possessed “Judas Iscariot” who was one of Jesus' disciples.

The verse continues, “... being of the number of the twelve.” Luke added the words, “being of the number” or “existing as one of the fixed and definite ones” “of the twelve” which means “belonging to the twelve disciples of Jesus”. Luke shared how “Judas” was one of Jesus' “twelve disciples”.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “the devil” “entered” into “Judas Iscariot” at this time. This is a significant moment in the story of the death of Jesus, and we shall see how this unfolds in Luke's account. God wants people to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and when they put their faith and trust in Him, they shall be “saved” from their sins and inherit everlasting life with God. Though “Satan” entered “Judas”, he does not have to control and lead every person to be in opposition to God. Those who are wise will submit themselves to Jesus, and understand that “Satan” resists them from doing so.

Next time Luke shares how Judas, “went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
