Woe to the Man Who Betrays Jesus - Luke 22:22

Luke the beloved physician wrote, “the hand of him that betrays me is with me on the table”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse twenty-two of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed” where we read:

And truly the Son of man goes, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!

The verse reads,And truly the Son of man goes, as it was determined: ” Luke began with the words, “and truly or “and certainly, surely and indeed” “the Son of man goes” which means “the Son of man which is Jesus pursues, departs and continues”, “as it was determined” or “even like the plan was ordained, appointed and decreed”. Luke shared how Jesus knew it was “certain” that He would continue His plan for the “salvation” of man, and He was “ordained” to follow it.

The verse goes on to say, but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!” Luke continued with the words, “but woe unto that man” or “however, nevertheless, notwithstanding and moreover alas (as an expression of grief) to the person whether male or female” “by whom he is betrayed” which means “through whom he, Jesus, is delivered over treacherously” to the religious leaders. Luke shared how Jesus pronounced great “woe” upon the person who “betrays” Him.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we discover how Jesus knew who would “betray” Him, and though he, Judas, was currently with Jesus and the other disciples, Jesus did not expose him. God sent His Son Jesus to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world, and even though He would be “betrayed”, He willingly came. God loves everyone, and those who are wise will believe and trust in Jesus and never align themselves with Judas as one who “betrays” Jesus and endures great “woe”.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus' disciples, “began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
