Make Haste to Deliver Me - Psalms 70:1

Psalms chapter seventy begins with the heading, “[[To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.]]” which breaks down, “to the chief Musician” or “to the preeminent, overseeing superintendent or chief choir director”, “A Psalm” which means “a poem or melody set to notes” “of David” or “belonging to David whose name means blessed and was the second king of Israel” “to bring to remembrance” which means “to recall, be thought of and call to mind”, and in chapter seventy and verse one of Psalms David said, Make haste, O God, to deliver me” where we read,

Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O LORD.

The verse begins, Make haste, O God, to deliver me; David began with the words, “make haste” or “hurry, precipitate, be speedy and act quickly”, “O God” which means “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “to deliver me” or “to snatch away, rescue, liberate and recover me, David”. David appealed to Jehovah to quickly liberate and rescue him.

The verse continues, make haste to help me, O LORD. David added the words, “make haste” or “hurry, precipitate, be speedy and act quickly” “to help me” which means “to succor, give aid and assistance to me, David”, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. David appealed to Jehovah God to make speed to give him aid.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn of another time that David appealed to God for deliverance and help. David wanted Jehovah to hurry to assist him, and he was like many of us who want God to act quickly. Paul the apostle wrote, “we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (See Romans 8:28), and God does all things according to His timing. Jehovah God sent His Son Jesus into the world, “in the fullness of the time” (See Galatians 4:4) so He could die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we receive Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and deliver and help us according to His purpose, plan and timing.

Next time David says, “Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
