The Luke the beloved physician wrote, “Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed. And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat. And they said unto him, Where will you that we prepare? And he said unto them, Behold, when you are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he enters in. And you shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master says unto you, Where is the guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? And he shall show you a large upper room furnished: there make ready”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse thirteen of his book Luke shared how Peter and John, “went, and found as he had said unto them” Jesus where we read:
And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
The verse reads, “And they went, and found as he had said unto them:” Luke began with the words, “and they went” or “and Peter and John departed and left”, “and found” which means “and discovered, recognized and detected” “as he had said unto them” or “in the same manner and likeness that Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed to Peter and John”. Luke shared how Peter and John departed from Jesus and discovered everything just as Jesus said.
The verse continues, “and they made ready the passover.” Luke added the words, “and they” or “and Peter and John” “made ready ” which means “made the necessary preparations and got everything ready for” “the passover” or “the paschal sacrifice which was accustomed to be offered for the people's deliverance of old from Egypt”. Luke shared how Peter and John “got everything ready” to eat the “passover meal”.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus' disciples, Peter and John, discovered everything just like Jesus said. Jesus knew in advance every detail for the preparation of the “passover meal” He would eat with His disciples, and even as He came into the world to “save” people from their sins, Jesus knows every detail within the lives of people. The wisest of people will submit themselves to His “lordship” by receiving Him as their “Savior”, and then they may depend upon His foreknowledge for every event they encounter.
Next time Luke shares what Jesus did, “when the hour was come”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
