Judas Seeking Opportunity to Betray Jesus - Luke 22:6

The beloved physician Luke wrote, “then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them. And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse six of his book Luke shared how Judas, “promised, and sought opportunity to betray” Jesus where we read:

And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.

The verse reads,And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them ...” Luke began with the words, “and he promised or “and Judas professed, agreed and engaged to betray Jesus”, “and sought opportunity” which means “and looked for in order to find and craved the seasonable time and favorable occasion” “to betray him unto them” or “to deliver up Jesus into custody to be judged, condemned, punished, scourged, tormented and put to death by the religious leaders”. Luke shared how Judas “agreed” to “betray” Jesus, and he looked for the “opportune” time to do so.

The verse goes on to say, “... in the absence of the multitude.” Luke continued with the words, “in the absence” or “when he was without and apart” “of the multitude” which means “from the crowd of people”. Luke shared how Judas desired to “betray” Jesus when the crowds of people were not around Him.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Judas made the agreement with the “religious leaders” to “betray” Jesus, and he only needed to find the “opportune time” when the “multitude” was not present to fulfill his commitment. God knew Jesus would be “betrayed” by one of His own disciples, and He allowed it for Jesus to pay for the sins of the entire world. Everyone who comes to Jesus, asks forgiveness of their sins and believes and trusts in Him will be saved and inherit everlasting life from God. Let all who read this scheme of Judas know to reject and refuse Jesus is to align with the “betrayal” of the only begotten Son of God.

Next time Luke shares, “then came the day of unleavened bread”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
