Day and Night Going Upon the Walls - Psalms 55:10

In Psalms chapter fifty five David wrote, I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest. Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues: for I have seen violence and strife in the city”, and in chapter fifty-five and verse ten of Psalms David said, “Day and night they go about it upon the walls”, where we read,

Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof: mischief also and sorrow are in the midst of it.

The verse begins, Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof:” David began with the words, “Day and night” or “from sunrise to sunset and from sunset to sunrise” “they go about it” which means “they, David's, hating foes and adversaries turn about, surround and encircle the city” “upon the walls thereof” or “on their protective ramparts, partition and bulwark”. David said all day and night long his hating foes encircle the protective “walls” of the city.

The verse goes on to say, mischief also and sorrow are in the midst of it.” David continues with the words, “mischief also” or “trouble, wickedness and iniquity even so and indeed” “and sorrow” which means “and toil, labor, grievance and misery” “are in the midst of it” or “exist within the middle of the town”. David said the result of his hating enemies surrounding the city was they brought trouble, wickedness, grievance and misery within the middle of it.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David recognized the trouble and misery that was caused by his hating adversaries. They surrounded David's city, and their behavior brought grievance to the people within it. God observed all of their pernicious ways, and when David made his appeal to Him, we can be assured that He was ready to take action against them. God loves people, and He proved it by sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. Our enemy, Satan, attempts to surround us, keep us in trouble, cause us misery and bring great grievance upon us, but Jehovah God came to our rescue through Jesus. When we submit to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and come to our rescue when the “hating enemies” surround us to make us miserable.

Next time David says, “Wickedness is in the midst thereof”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
