Loving Devouring Words - Psalms 52:4

In Psalms chapter fifty two David asked, “Why boast you yourself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endures continually. Your tongue devises mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. You love evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah”, and in chapter fifty-two and verse four of Psalms David said, “you love all devouring words”, where we read,

You love all devouring words, O you deceitful tongue.

The verse begins, You love all devouring words, ...” David began with the words, “you love all” or “you, Doeg, have affection for and are attracted to each, every, the whole and everyone of the” “devouring words” which means “speeches, utterances, declarations and proclamations of swallowing, gulping and destruction”. David said “Doeg” was affectionate for every one of the utterances and speeches that are directed toward destruction.

The verse continues, “... O you deceitful tongue.” David added the words, “O you deceitful” or “O you, Doeg, fraudulent, false, subtle and treacherous” “tongue” which means “wedge in the mouth used for speaking”. David named “Doeg” a fraudulent and treacherous “tongue” because of his fraudulent use of speaking destruction.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through David how “Doeg” was affectionate for destructive speech, and it was so prevalent in his life, that David called him a “deceitful tongue”. God provided the “tongue and mouth” within human beings, and He desires that we use our speech wisely. When we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and ask Jesus Christ into our lives, we fulfill the greatest use of our speaking abilities. When we surrender to Jesus, God will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to use our “tongues” in a righteous and just manner. Let us come to Jesus today and ask Him to help our speech to be used to bless Him and other people with whom we have to do.

Next time David says, “God shall likewise destroy you for ever”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
