Do Good in Your Good Pleasure - Psalms 51:18

In Psalms chapter fifty one David said,The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, you will not despise”, and in chapter fifty-one and verse eighteen of Psalms David told God, “Do good in your good pleasure unto Zion”, where we read,

Do good in your good pleasure unto Zion: build you the walls of Jerusalem.

The verse begins, Do good in your good pleasure unto Zion:” David began with the words, “Do good” or “be pleasing, well, glad and joyful” “in your good pleasure” which means “within your, Lord Jehovah God's, delight, favor, goodwill, acceptance, desire and self-will” “unto Zion” or “toward Zion whose name means parched place and was another name for Jerusalem especially in the prophetic books”. David appealed to Jehovah God to be pleasing, glad and joyful with His delight and favor toward “Zion” or “Jerusalem”.

The verse goes on to say, build you the walls of Jerusalem.” David continued with the words, “build you the walls” or “establish, cause to continue and set up walls of protection” “of Jerusalem” which means “belonging to Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and was the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split”. David beckoned Jehovah God to set up and erect “walls” of protection belonging to “Jerusalem”.

When we think through words in this verse, we see how David moved his focus from himself to the city of “Zion” or “Jerusalem”. He wanted Jehovah God to be pleasing and favorable to “Zion”, and appealed to Him to erect the “walls” of protection surrounding the city. God's desire is to save every person from their sins that separated them from a personal relationship with Him, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind. Anyone who yields to Jesus as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and have God's protective walls surrounding them and their city. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God who not only desires to have a relationship with every person, but also with every city, town and village who will surrender themselves to Him.

Next time David says, “then shall you be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
