Sweet Counsel Together - Psalms 55:14

In Psalms chapter fifty five David wrote, I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest. Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues: for I have seen violence and strife in the city. Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof: mischief also and sorrow are in the midst of it. Wickedness is in the midst thereof: deceit and guile depart not from her streets. For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him. But it was you, a man my equal, my guide, and my acquaintance”, and in chapter fifty-five and verse fourteen of Psalms David said, “we took sweet counsel together”, where we read,

We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company.

The verse begins, We took sweet counsel together, ...” David began with the words, “we took sweet counsel” or “we, David and his friend, had pleasant and relished fellowship in conversation and intimacy” “together” which means “in union, community, united and as a unit”. David said he and his friend had united fellowship and communion with one another.

The verse goes on to say, “... and walked unto the house of God in company.” David continued with the words, “and walked unto the house” or “and ambled toward the dwelling place, abode and habitation” “of God” which means “belonging to the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “in company” or “in a throng or crowd”. David shared how he and his friend “walked” together into the the dwelling place, worship center and tabernacle of God.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David reflected upon times when he and his close companion “walked” into God's dwelling place with one another. In other words, they went to “church” together. This person was David's close companion, and they worshiped God together. Now this person betrayed David and became like an enemy to him. God knows how people betray one another, and He sent His Son Jesus who was “betrayed” by Judas Iscariot which lead to His death upon the cross. We have an opportunity to yield our lives to Jesus who will identify with us when others “betray” us, and He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and accompany us regardless of who aligns with us or turns against us.

Next time David says, “let death seize upon them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
