Putting Forth Hands - Psalms 55:20

In Psalms chapter fifty five David said, “He has delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me. God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abides of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God”, and in chapter fifty-five and verse twenty of Psalms David said, “He has put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him”, where we read,

He has put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him: he has broken his covenant.

The verse begins, He has put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him:” David began with the words, “He has put forth his hands” or “He, the betraying friend has stretched out and extended His hands of strength, power and pain” “against such as be at peace” which means “in opposition to the companions of David who violated their trust and covenant” “with him” or “alongside him, David”. David again referred to his friend and companion who stretched out his strong hands in opposition to him.

The verse goes on to say,he has broken his covenant.” David continued with the words, “he has broken” or “he, the friend who betrayed David, has profaned, defiled, polluted and desecrated” “his covenant” which means “his, the betraying friend's, alliance, pledge, league and agreement”. David shared how the friend who betrayed him violated and profane his previous alliance and agreement with him.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David recognized the friend who betrayed him not only stretched for his “hands” in opposition to him, but he also violated a previous agreement and commitment with him. When people break their commitments, contracts, vows and agreements, there is always someone hurt. Fortunately for us, Jehovah God made a commitment to save us when we believe and trust in His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. God has promised to forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and dwell with us by His Holy Spirit when we yield to His Son Jesus, and for all eternity we who believe and trust in Him will give Him praise, honor and glory for His provision and “covenant” with us when we simply believe.

Next time David says, “the words of his mouth were smoother than butter”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
