Dark Sayings We Have Heard and Known - Psalms 78:3

In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph said, “I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse three of Psalms Asaph shared how the dark sayings are ones, “which we have heard and known where we read,

Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

The verse begins, Which we have heard and known, ... Asaph began with the words, “which we have heard” or “that we, Asaph and his fellow countrymen have listened to, perceived and hearkened to” “and known” which means “and learned, understood, discerned and distinguished”. Asaph said the “dark sayings” he would utter were perceived and understood by him and his audience.

The verse continues,... and our fathers have told us. Asaph added the words, “and our fathers” or “and our, Asaph and his fellow countrymen's, immediate male ancestors and progenitors” “have told us” which means “have recounted, related and rehearsed to Asaph and his countrymen”. Asaph said the “dark sayings” that were “heard and known” by him and his fellow countrymen were spoken and related to them by their forefathers.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Asaph the source of his perplexing proverbs. They were told to them by their forefathers, and they were passed down from generation to generation. A Godly heritage is one to be coveted and followed, and when stories of old are told, we should pay attention to them. God's desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and He sent Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, we will have followed the greatest story and mystery of all – that God would come to the earth to die for our sins so we could be forgiven of our them and granted everlasting life with Him. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus for the “dark sayings” passed down from previous generations and their provision for us for all eternity.

Next time Asaph says, “we will not hide them from their children, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
