In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph said, “I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old, which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse four of Psalms Asaph said, “we will not hide them from their children” where we read,
We will not hide them from their children, showing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he has done.
The verse begins, “We will not hide them from their children, showing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, ...” Asaph began with the words, “we will not hide them” or “we, Asaph and his fellow countrymen, shall not conceal, cut off, cut down or make desolate” “from their children” which means “apart and separate from their offspring and progeny”, “showing to the generation to come” or “recounting, relating, taking into account and rehearsing to the period, age and posterity in the future and subsequent re-reward” “the praises” which means “the songs and hymns of adoration, thanksgiving, fame and glory” “of the LORD” or “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God”. Asaph shared how he would not conceal the dark sayings of old, and he would demonstrate to the future generations the honor, glory and fame of Jehovah God.
The verse goes on to say, “... and his strength, and his wonderful works that he has done.” Asaph continued with the words, “and his strength” or “and his, Jehovah God's, might, forcibleness and ability”, “and his wonderful works” which means “and his, Jehovah God's, marvelous, surpassing and extraordinary acts and deeds” “that he has done” or “that he, Jehovah God, has performed, produced, fashioned and accomplished”. Asaph said he would tell the future generations of the power, might and marvelous acts that Jehovah God performed.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph desired to share with future generations about the wonderful acts and deeds of Jehovah God. He would not conceal them but rather expose them so people in the future would know about God. This is the theme of the Bible as God reveals Himself through His word, and when we study the scriptures, we discover that God knows us, loves us and sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins so He may forgive us and grant us everlasting life with Him. Let us give praise, honor and glory to God for His provision of His word and His Son Jesus whom we shall worship for all eternity.
Next time Asaph shares how Jehovah God, “established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
